Change it up Charlie originated in 2008 with string bass player Thom Reed. Rounding out the band are Bob Hamilton on guitar and Holly Schmitt as their lead vocalist. In 2017, Alan Stull joined the band on Sax and in 2019 Angela Kozarich joined us on Drums. Our newest member Jason Carlos Marquez became official in 2020. Since 2008, the band has played in venues and festivals throughout Columbus and has developed a wide fan base with their signature sound. Their shows are known for getting people up on their feet and singing along. Their first album SENSATIONAL! BOLD! STARTLING! was released in 2015.
Holly Schmitt - Lead Vocals Originally from New York, Holly sang everywhere from the classical stage to the bars her whole life. Her college years allowed her the opportunity to be part of the Crane School of Music and various bands. Now in Ohio she loves spending time with some of the most talented musicians in all of Columbus.
Thom Reed - String Bass Thom started playing bass early in life when everyone else around him wanted to play guitar. He started playing in various rock, punk, and metal bands but always had a love for Alt Rock and Hot Jazz, Bebop, and Swing. This lead to a slew of bands and bars (Staches, Little Brothers, Freaking Pizza, Thirsty Ear, Newport, Apollo’s, Vonn Jazz to name a few). Thom’s musical influence starts with he Marsalis Family (Wynton and Ellis) and Harry Connick Jr and then branches out to include Soul Coughing, Prince, Black Sabbath, They Might Be Giants and The Police.
Bob Hamilton - Lead Guitar Peppermint Bob is a native of the Cleveland area, Bob moved to and received music training in Philadelphia, PA. He has taught guitar and played in numerous venues in Central Ohio, including the Blues Station, the Columbus Comfest, Thirsty Ear, and the Ohio University Jitterbug Club. Influences include swing, small combo jazz, surf, and classic country.
Alan Stull - Saxophone Alan has been playing sax for many years. He joined in the spring of 2017. In Columbus, he not only plays with CIUC but you can also see him with Swings the Thing and many other jazz groups.
Jason Carlos Marquez - Harmonica Jason joined the band occationally since 2018 but became a permanent member in 2020. He has been a part of the Columbus blues scene for many years and has participated in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis multiple times!
Angela Kozarich - Drums The newest member of CIUC, drummer Angela Kozarich, started as the band's back-up and then joined full time in 2019. Surrounded by musicians and singers in her extended family as a child, Angela skillfully perfected the triangle and other tiny instruments. It wasn't until she married her husband that she thought to herself, live in roadie, and took up the drum kit. Her favorite highlights from her career so far are being picked twice for the National Women in Blues showcase band in Memphis, laying down 5 tracks on a jazz CD, and being complimented on her drumming by blues guitar legend Ronnie Earl.
